Deep Tissue Massage is used to break up scar tissue and break down muscle adhesions (aka: knots) that can inhibit circulaton and cause pain and inflammation. Achieving this desired effect requires the therapist to apply large amounts of pressure that can be uncomforable for some people. Most seeking a DTM enjoy the extra pressure, and report that it is a "good type of discomfort" and worth it long term, but if you are looking for something a little less intense, you may want to look into swedish or custom massage instead.
